Sicilian Red Wines: the essence of Etna and Nero d'Avola

Sicilian Red Wines tell the story of a sunny and complex land, capable of expressing reds with great personality, from a Mediterranean profile to volcanic elegance. In this selection, labels that best interpret the island find their place: from the fresh and mineral wines of Etna to the richer and more enveloping expressions of Nero d'Avola.

Sicily is one of the most fascinating regions of Italy for those seeking recognizable, intense red wines that are tied to the territory. Here, volcanic soils, varying altitudes, sea breezes, and warm climates coexist, elements that give rise to very different but always identity-driven styles. It is precisely this variety that makes the collection interesting for those who wish to discover bottles to enjoy, but also to choose for a targeted and conscious purchase.

The volcanic soul of Etna

The reds of Etna are among the most refined expressions of the Sicilian landscape. Grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio give rise to wines of great finesse, often characterized by notes of red fruits, spices, Mediterranean herbs, and a pleasant mineral imprint. The labels present in the collection include reference producers such as Benanti, Girolamo Russo, Graci, Cottanera, Pietradolce, and Tasca d'Almerita, all interpreters of a unique territory.

These wines stand out for their balance, tension, and ability to accompany flavorful dishes without overpowering their flavors. They are ideal for those who love elegant reds, less immediate but deeper, capable of evolving in the glass and over time.

Nero d'Avola and the more Mediterranean face of Sicily

Alongside the Etna wines, Nero d'Avola represents one of the enological symbols of the island. In this collection, it appears in various interpretations, from the softer and fruitier versions to the more structured and authoritative ones. It is a grape variety that offers intensity, roundness, and a warm character, perfect for those seeking a rich yet versatile Sicilian red.

Among the notable names are producers like Donnafugata, Planeta, Cusumano, Duca di Salaparuta, Feudo Maccari, Occhipinti Azienda Agricola, and Palari. Their presence enhances the connection between grape variety, production style, and territorial identity, offering a broad and selected overview of the island's best reds.

Pairings and occasions for consumption

Sicilian red wines express themselves best with rich and flavorful dishes from Mediterranean tradition. They are perfect with red meats, roasts, grilled dishes, pasta with ragù, aged cheeses, and mushroom-based preparations. The finer and more mineral Etna versions can also accompany dishes of medium structure, while the fuller and more generous Nero d'Avola lend themselves to more intense and convivial recipes.
