Special Formats: large bottles, great wines, great occasions

The Special Formats tell the most scenic and collectible side of Italian and international wine. From Magnum to large formats like Jeroboam, Mathusalem, Salmanazar, and Balthazar, these bottles are designed to enhance important labels, representative dinners, impactful gifts, and memorable moments.

On Italian Wine Selection, you will find a curated selection of wines in special formats that combines prestige, rarity, and oenological value. Large formats are not only captivating for their aesthetic presence: they also allow for a slower and more harmonious maturation, often highly appreciated in structured wines and great sparkling wines. For this reason, they are particularly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors.

Why choose a wine in special format

A wine in special format is often the right choice when you want to celebrate an event, set up a vertical tasting, build a high-profile cellar, or surprise with a memorable gift. Large formats enhance the character of the labels and, in many cases, offer a slower evolution over time. They are perfect for those looking for scenic bottles but also for those who wish to preserve and share wines with greater complexity.

The collection also includes gift boxes, wooden cases, special packaging, and limited editions, elements that increase the perceived value of the wine and make it suitable for formal occasions, anniversaries, corporate events, and important tables.

Pairings and consumption moments

The Special Formats are ideal with structured and convivial dishes: red meats, game, braised dishes, aged cheeses, and rich-flavored cuisine. Sparkling wines and champagnes in large formats are suitable for elegant aperitifs, toasts, and celebrations. When the bottle takes center stage, the service and context contribute to making the experience even more special.

FAQs

What is meant by wines in Special Formats?
The wines in Special Formats are bottles larger than the standard 0.75 l, such as Magnum, Jeroboam, Mathusalem, Salmanazar, and Balthazar. They are often chosen for large occasions, collecting, and important gifts. Besides the visual impact, these formats can enhance the evolution of the wine over time, especially in labels of great structure or in fine sparkling wines. In the collection, you will find a wide and curated selection of wines and special packaging.
Why buy wine in large format?
A large format wine is a choice appreciated by those seeking something prestigious and memorable. The larger bottle makes the serving moment more dramatic and, in many cases, promotes a slower and more harmonious maturation. For this reason, special formats are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. They are ideal for anniversaries, important dinners, corporate gifts, or to enrich a cellar with iconic labels from wineries like Donnafugata, Antinori, or Avignonesi.
Which wines to choose from the Special Formats collection?
The choice depends on the occasion and personal taste. If you are looking for a wine for aging or an important table wine, you can lean towards great reds like Brunello di Montalcino, Barolo, Amarone della Valpolicella, Bolgheri Rosso, or Taurasi. If, on the other hand, you want to celebrate with elegance, the great sparkling wines and champagne in special formats are perfect. The collection also includes limited editions, wooden boxes, and collector's drawers, useful for those who desire a refined and distinctive purchase.
