Made from Sangiovese, it combines elegance, energy, and depth of flavor in a refined style, designed for those looking for an authoritative yet very approachable Brunello in the glass. It is a wine that highlights the signature of Antinori and the vocation of the Pian delle Vigne estate, with a profile that is both classic and contemporary.
Territory and wine style
The Pian delle Vigne estate is located southwest of Montalcino, in an area historically linked to the production of prestigious wines. Here, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is born from a territory capable of expressing fruit maturity, tension, and finesse.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it presents a bright and inviting ruby red color. The aromatic profile is fresh and fragrant, with hints of blood orange, plum, balsamic notes, and nuances of vanilla. On the palate, it is fine and vibrant, with a flavorful and well-present tannic structure, supported by excellent freshness that provides momentum and precision. The sip is harmonious, dynamic, and persistent, with a long finish where fruity, spicy, and slightly vanilla notes return.
Recommended pairings
This Brunello pairs naturally with structured and flavorful dishes from Tuscan and Italian cuisine. It is ideal with braised meats, roasts, beef fillet, game birds, stewed wild boar, and pappardelle with meat ragù. It also goes wonderfully with aged cheeses and well-matured pecorino, thanks to its freshness and tannic structure that support rich preparations without overpowering their taste.
Serving temperature
The ideal temperature for Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino 2021 DOCG Antinori is between 18 and 20 °C. If served young, it can benefit from a brief decanting or an early opening of about an hour, to encourage the evolution of the aromas and a better integration of the deeper components.

Climate
The 2021 vintage was characterized by a generally mild winter, marked by temperatures rarely below zero and with little rainfall, intensified only towards the end of the season. Pruning took place late, slowing down bud break, thus reducing the damage caused by the drop in temperatures on April 7. The summer months were generally warm and dry, while the light rains at the end of August lowered temperatures, favoring a slow and optimal maturation. The harvest, which took place between mid and late September, was characterized by healthy and fragrant grapes.
Winemaking
Upon arrival at the winery, the grapes were destemmed and gently pressed before being transferred to stainless steel tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place. The maceration lasted an average of twelve days at a temperature of 28 °C. After malolactic fermentation, the wine was transferred to oak barrels ranging in size from 30 to 80 Hl, where it began its maturation process in wood. After two years, Pian delle Vigne left the large barrel to embark on a long bottle aging.
Historical Data
The Pian delle Vigne estate, located 6 km southwest of Montalcino, takes its name from the homonymous locality where there is a characteristic 19th-century railway station. The estate consists of 184 hectares, of which 65 are vineyard, mainly exposed to the southwest at an altitude of about 130 meters above sea level. Since its inception, Pian delle Vigne has pursued a philosophy oriented towards large barrels, capable of preserving the extraordinary integrity of Sangiovese fruit and imparting the characteristic vibrant elegance to the Brunello. The estate has been owned by the Antinori family since 1995, the year of the first harvest of Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
Tasting Notes
