Description

Fontalloro 2009 IGT Toscana Felsina, Sangiovese of great personality

Fontalloro 2009 IGT Toscana by Felsina is an elegant and deep red wine, made from 100% Sangiovese and designed to accurately tell the story of the Tuscan territory. It comes from vineyards located between Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi, in a vocated area where altitude, exposure, and soil diversity contribute to defining a style that is rich, complex, and of great identity.

Territory and wine style

The grapes come from the estates of Poggio al Sole and Arcidossino, in areas situated between 330 and 407 meters above sea level. Here, Sangiovese finds ideal conditions to express freshness, aromatic finesse, and structure. The soils, different from each other, combine rocky, calcareous, and clay components in the Chianti area with sands, silt, small pebbles, and marine sediments on the border with the Crete Senesi. The result is a Tuscan wine of strong personality, capable of combining energy, depth, and a pleasant tasting precision.

Tasting notes

In the glass, it presents itself with an intense ruby red color rich in nuances. The bouquet is complex and opens with notes of tobacco, wet earth, and dust, followed by hints of blackcurrant, blackberry, and licorice. On the palate, it shows good structure, substance, and a well-present presence of tannins that are moderately soft, with a balance that carries the sip to a broad and defined aftertaste. It is a wine that combines depth, elegance, and a long evolutionary capacity in the best vintages.

Recommended pairings

Fontalloro 2009 pairs very naturally with flavorful and structured dishes of Italian cuisine. It is ideal with roasted or grilled red meats, braised dishes, game, stewed wild boar, and rich sauced preparations. It also works very well with important first courses, such as pappardelle with meat ragù, pici with ragù, or traditional lasagna. Excellent also with aged cheeses and flavorful pecorinos, which enhance its tannic texture and aromatic depth.

Serving temperature

To best appreciate Fontalloro 2009 IGT Toscana Felsina, a serving temperature between 16 and 18°C is recommended. In an evolved vintage like 2009, it may be helpful to open the bottle a little in advance to favor the aromatic expression and harmony of the sip. A long decanting is not necessary, but brief aeration can make the wine more relaxed and fragrant.

Why buy it

It is a valuable choice for those looking for a great Tuscan Sangiovese capable of uniting territory, structure, and elegance. Fontalloro 2009 IGT Toscana Felsina offers a complex profile, an authoritative drinkability, and a very versatile gastronomic character, ideal for both an important dinner and to enrich one's cellar with a bottle of personality. A wine that speaks of Tuscany in an authentic way, with style and depth.
