Description

Messorio 2020 Toscana Rosso IGT Le Macchiole

Messorio 2020 by Le Macchiole is a Toscana Rosso IGT made from 100% Merlot that personally interprets one of the emblematic grape varieties of the Bolgheri territory. Born to express power, depth, and identity, this wine combines material richness and stylistic precision, confirming the authoritative profile of the winery and its connection to one of the most vocated areas of the Tuscan coast.

Territory and wine style

The Messorio project originates in Bolgheri, in a context that has made Merlot one of the most recognizable protagonists of contemporary Italian wine. The label aims to enhance the best clusters with an intense and refined interpretation, far from the idea of a simple or predictable Merlot. The Toscana IGT designation allows for an expressive and modern style, capable of uniting elegance and structure. The grapes come from the Vignone 1999 and Ulivino 2016 vineyards, harvested in the second and third weeks of September, and vinified in concrete with a 20-day maceration, followed by 16 months of aging in new barriques and ceramic amphorae.

Tasting notes

In the glass, Messorio 2020 presents a characteristically rich and enveloping profile, consistent with high-level Merlot. The color is deep and dense, while the nose reveals sensations of ripe fruit, spices, and more complex nuances due to aging. On the palate, the wine shows body, density, and a broad flavor texture, with tannins present but well integrated and a freshness that supports the sip without making it angular. The finish is long, flavorful, and persistent, with an elegant closure that invites a second glass.

Recommended pairings

Thanks to its structure, Messorio 2020 pairs successfully with important red meats, roasts, braised dishes, grilled fillet, and flavorful preparations of Tuscan cuisine. It is also ideal with game birds, mushrooms, pappardelle with ragù, and aged cheeses. Its richness makes it perfect for characterful dishes, capable of dialoguing with the softness of Merlot and the depth of its aromatic profile.

Serving temperature

The ideal temperature for Messorio 2020 is between 16 and 18 °C. If served young, it can benefit from an early opening or a brief aeration in a decanter, to best express its complexity and aromatic nuances.

Why buy it

Choosing Messorio 2020 Le Macchiole means bringing into your cellar a great Tuscan red capable of uniting territorial identity, depth, and finesse. It is a wine designed for those seeking a high-level Merlot, suitable for both an important dinner and a purchase intended for aging. The signature of Le Macchiole adds credibility and charm to a bottle that speaks of Bolgheri with modern style and a strong personality.
