Description
Fontalloro IGT Magnum: the Sangiovese of Fèlsina in large format
Fontalloro IGT Magnum is one of the most representative labels of Fèlsina, an authoritative interpretation of pure Tuscan Sangiovese. It comes from selected vineyards between Chianti Classico and the border with Chianti Colli Senesi, in a hilly context that combines altitude, favorable exposure, and very diverse soils. The result is a wine with a strong identity, capable of combining aromatic depth, structure, and a natural inclination for aging.
Territory and wine style
The grapes come from the estates of Poggio al Sole and Arcidossino, in vineyards located between 330 and 407 meters above sea level, with a predominantly southwest exposure. The soils, rocky, calcareous, and clayey in the Chianti Classico area, are enriched towards the Crete Senesi with sands, silt, small pebbles, and marine sediments. This geological mosaic contributes to giving the wine balance, tension, and complexity. Fontalloro IGT Magnum thus expresses an elegant yet decisive style, true to the character of Sangiovese and the production precision of Fèlsina.
Tasting notes
In the glass, it presents a ruby red of good intensity and chromatic richness. The olfactory profile is broad and complex, with hints of blackcurrant, blackberry, licorice, tobacco, and wet earth, alongside a pleasant sensation of mineral depth. On the palate, it shows good consistency, present but moderately soft tannins, balanced structure, and a long, refined, and persistent finish. Fontalloro IGT Magnum combines energy and precision, with a taste progression that invites the next sip.
Recommended pairings
The structure of the wine makes it ideal with flavorful and succulent dishes from Tuscan and Italian cuisine. It pairs well with grilled red meats, roasts, braised dishes, game, peposo, pappardelle with wild boar ragù, and aged cheeses. It is also a convincing choice with richer preparations based on mushrooms or with significant cuts of meat, where the character of Sangiovese always finds excellent balance.
Serving temperature
Serve Fontalloro IGT Magnum at a temperature between 16 and 18 °C. In the presence of a young vintage, it may be helpful to open the bottle a little in advance to encourage aromatic evolution and the expression of tannins.
Why buy it
The magnum format enhances a wine that is already significant for its history and personality, making it particularly suitable for moments of sharing, special dinners, and collection. Fontalloro IGT Magnum represents a choice of great charm for those seeking a high-level Italian wine, with a strong territorial bond, consistent quality, and excellent aging potential. It is a label that combines prestige, gastronomic versatility, and enological value.
