Masseto
Masseto wines for sale online at Italian Wine Selection
Masseto wine is one of Tuscany's excellences, a fine wine that has been racking up awards for decades. The wines of the Masseto winery are born for the few, by virtue of prices that are not always affordable. The genesis of Masseto wine is linked to the work of Marquis Antinori, who founded Tenuta dell'Ornellaia in Italy in 1981, at which time winemaker André Tchelistcheff set up a Merlot grape cultivation that was the first step toward the creation of what we now know as Masseto. The name of this fantastic Tuscan wine derives precisely from the hill from which it originates, a hill with blue clays by virtue of marine substrates that have risen to the surface over time. The latter aspect makes this terroir particularly sensitive to water, and thanks to the area's microclimate it allows winemakers to obtain grapes of the highest quality. Masseto wine over the years has gradually been perfected, reaching very high standards that put it in competition with the most valuable wines in the world, moreover beyond the Alps such wine has been included in the small circle of Supertuscans. In the early 2000s, the production of Masseto wine ended up in the hands of Tenuta Frescobaldi, which every year makes this very expensive wine on three decidedly different plots of land that make the harvest certainly on the level of that made to generate the most emblazoned sparkling wines. In the cellar of Italian Wine Selection you can find an important selection of the best Masseto and Massetino wines, Supertuscan wines of a very high profile but above all very rare by virtue of a decidedly limited annual production.
