Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region renowned throughout the world for the production of great white wines. The production of such white wines has reached such a high level over time that some experts have come to call certain wines "super-white." Friuli is divided into different areas: in the area from the province of Pordenone to part of that of Udine we find the DOC Grave and DOC Pianura Aquileia, Annia and Latisana; in the northeast area from the province of Udine to that of Gorizia we find instead the DOC Isonzo, Colli Orientali del Friuli and Collio; in the area of Giuliana instead here is the DOC Carso. Friuli produces just over 1million hl of PDO wines each year, where 70 percent is represented by white wines and 30 percent by red and rosé wines. A region rich in grape varieties, especially indigenous, ranging from white grapes such as Malvasia, Vitovska, Picolit and Friulano; through black grapes such as Refosco, Pignolo, Schioppettino, Tazzelenghe and Terrano. Friuli wineries

Friuli Venezia Giulia has a wide variety of grape varieties, a region famous for its great international white wines but also has fine black wines. Among the most renowned grape varieties we certainly mention Tocai Friulano, Verduzzo Friulano, Picolit, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Schioppettino, Pignolo, Tazzelenghe, Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia Istriana. The international grape varieties present in the area are Pinot Grigio and Merlot in large part, but Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc also find room. Small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon are also present, but the value of Friuli's wine production is also chiseled by the presence of the first non-native grape nationwide, Glera, and by grape varieties introduced from Austria such as Gewürztraminer, Müller, Rhine Riesling and Riesling Italico, and Franconia. Finally, as far as desserts are concerned, it is impossible not to mention the four most renowned ones: Gubana (doughnut with raisins, pine nuts, walnuts and candied citrus peel), Presnitz (puff pastry filled with walnuts, almonds, figs, pine nuts, raisins, apricots, plums, mixed with sugar, chocolate, cinnamon cloves and rum) Strucolo (a strudel made in two variations, one sweet with apples and one savory with spinach) and Pinza (a stale bread made with milk, sugar, dried fruit, grapes, apples, fennel seeds and eggs). Such desserts go well with grape varieties such as Ramandolo or Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit.
