Wines from Friuli for sale online at Italian Wine Selection
Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region renowned throughout the world for the production of great white wines. The production of such white wines has reached such a high level over time that some experts have come to call certain wines "super-white." Friuli is divided into different areas: in the area from the province of Pordenone to part of that of Udine we find the DOC Grave and DOC Pianura Aquileia, Annia and Latisana; in the northeast area from the province of Udine to that of Gorizia we find instead the DOC Isonzo, Colli Orientali del Friuli and Collio; in the area of Giuliana instead here is the DOC Carso. Friuli produces just over 1million hl of PDO wines each year, where 70 percent is represented by white wines and 30 percent by red and rosé wines. A region rich in grape varieties, especially indigenous, ranging from white grapes such as Malvasia, Vitovska, Picolit and Friulano; through black grapes such as Refosco, Pignolo, Schioppettino, Tazzelenghe and Terrano. The Italian Wine Selection wine shop offers a selection of Friulian wines that can be purchased online, aromas and flavors of Friuli to satisfy every palate.
Friuli Venezia Giulia has a wide variety of grape varieties, a region famous for its great international white wines but also has fine black wines. Among the most renowned grape varieties we certainly mention Tocai Friulano, Verduzzo Friulano, Picolit, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Schioppettino, Pignolo, Tazzelenghe, Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia Istriana. The international grape varieties present in the area are Pinot Grigio and Merlot in large part, but Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc also find room. Small percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon are also present, but the value of Friuli's wine production is also chiseled by the presence of the first non-native grape nationwide, Glera, and by grape varieties introduced from Austria such as Gewürztraminer, Müller, Rhine Riesling and Riesling Italico, and Franconia. In the carnet of Friulian wines of Italian Wine Selection we find about 20 wineries, we remember among them Miani, Croatto vini, Attems, Ronchi di Cialla, Aziende Agricole Roeno, Sun Giorgio, Tiare and many others.
Why choose wines from Friuli
We at Italian Wine Selection have selected the best wineries in Friuli, putting their wines online from day one.Our marriage goes far beyond just selling wines online, we believe in every single label you will find on our site (we have been selling online for about 20 years). The ancient Friulian tradition allows us to associate different wines with various dishes, from appetizers to desserts via tasty first and second courses. For hors d'oeuvres, ideal for example is the pairing that sees Ribolla gialla often paired with Prosciutto San Daniele DOP and Prosciutto di Sauris IGP, but Collio Bianco DOC also finds its place paired with fish hors d'oeuvres such as smoked Trofa. First courses, on the other hand, range from soups to fish broths, famous for example Minestra Carsolina, Boreto alla gradesana or alla triestina, the former goes well with a red such as Carso Terrano DOC while the latter find in Pinot Bianco a valuable culinary ally. Meat and fish second courses then provide a wide range of choices: among the first courses special mention for Testina alla carnaiola, Pig in raspberry sauce, Toc de purcit, dishes that find full fulfillment with structured reds such as Pignolo di Rosazzo DOC or Refosco dei Colli Orientali. For main courses, on the other hand, given the wide choice of white wines in the area, among them we mention Malvasia Istriana. Finally, as far as desserts are concerned, it is impossible not to mention the four most renowned ones: Gubana (doughnut with raisins, pine nuts, walnuts and candied citrus peel), Presnitz (puff pastry filled with walnuts, almonds, figs, pine nuts, raisins, apricots, plums, mixed with sugar, chocolate, cinnamon cloves and rum) Strucolo (a strudel made in two variations, one sweet with apples and one savory with spinach) and Pinza (a stale bread made with milk, sugar, dried fruit, grapes, apples, fennel seeds and eggs). Such desserts go well with grape varieties such as Ramandolo or Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit.
