Best Italian Wines Vinitaly 2023: Campania excels but watch out for surprises

A month ago the curtain fell on Vinitaly 2023, from 2 to 5 April at the PalaExpo in Verona, a three-day event attended by hundreds of wineries and where over 2000 wines were on show. The 5StarWines - the Book, an oenological selection organised by Verona Fiere in collaboration with Assoenologi, was defined during this event. A jury of wine professionals carried out the bling tasting then, of the over 2200 participating wines, as many as 733 obtained a score of at least 90/100, which earned them inclusion in the prestigious guide.

Below are the various categories and wines awarded at Vinitaly 2023, wines that were then included in the 5StarWines - The Book 2024 guide

- Best Italian wine: Amalfi Coast DOC Furore Bianco Fiorduva 2021 by Marisa Cuomo - Score 97/100

- Best red wine: Barolo DOCG Sarmassa 2018 by Marchesi di Barolo - Score 95/100

- Best white wine: Greco di Tufo DOCG 2022 by Cantina Terre D'Aione - Score 95/100

- Best rosé wine: Etna DOC Nerello Mascalese Rosato Amuri di Fimmina and Amuri di Matri 2021 by Cantina Al-Cantara - Score 92/100

- Best sparkling wine: Trento DOC Extra Brut Riserva 907 2017 by Cantina Isera - Score 94/100

- Best sparkling wine: Emilia IGT Lambrusco frizzante primo fiore by Amadei Franco - Score: 92/100

- Best sweet wine: Passito di Pantelleria DOC Ben Rye 2021 by Donnafugata - Score: 95/100

- Best wine 2023: Passito dell'Elba DOCG 2021 by Tenuta La Chiusa - Score: 94/100
