Vom Lehm Pinot Noir Riserva Alto Adige DOC
Our Pinot Noir "Vom Lehm" (from the clay) benefits from its exceptional location in southern South Tyrol. The vines grow in Graun above Cortaccia, 800 meters above sea level, on a south-facing slope with gradients of up to 70 percent; the Mendel Coast protects the vineyard from cold northern winds. The wine's name comes from the tongues of clay that intersperse the limestone soil.
The vineyard's southern orientation and solar radiation create optimal conditions for the growth and ripening of the vines and grapes. Cool downward winds generate a high temperature range between day and night, which has an optimal effect on the aroma of the grapes as well as their health and ripeness.
The deep clay-limestone soil, low vineyard yields and very high altitude give the wine elegance, minerality and especially intense notes of dark berries. The aromas are made more intense by slow aging in small wooden barrels (barriques), which also gives Pinot Noir "Vom Lehm" structure and longevity.
