Tasting Notes.
Dark ruby red in color with light garnet reflections, the nose expresses all the typicality of the best Brunellos thanks to particularly broad scents, recalling first jammy fruit, cherry and plum, and immediately after mint, sweet tobacco, cocoa. In the mouth it is harmonious, relaxed, enveloping, showing all its stuff thanks to an impeccable balance and a rare elegance. It closes with a vaguely spicy call, for a finish of great persistence.
Made from the best grapes from the vineyards of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, San Giorgio's Brunello di Montalcino is a red wine whose fermentation takes place in large steel tanks, with particularly prolonged contact between the skins and the must. Subsequent maturation takes place in barriques of first and second passage for twelve months followed by another two years in large Slavonian oak barrels. What results is a wine of great stuff, as enveloping as it is responsive. A Textbook Brunello. The name, "Ugolforte," comes from a famous brigand who led the people of Montalcino against the Sienese occupation in the 12th century.
