Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Greppo Riserva 2016 Biondi Santi
A rainy winter was followed by a relatively wet and rather temperate spring. The summer brought warmth and stability, but temperatures remained generally below average. Rainfall at the end of August/beginning of September extended the pre-harvest period, leading to a slow and very balanced ripening of the grapes. In particular, they benefited from a very high temperature range between day and night, which favoured the aromatic charge. The harvest began on 19 September more than a week later than average for Biondi-Santi.
ORIGIN
The Riserva 2016 was produced exclusively from a selection of grapes from our own vineyards, including our oldest vineyards.
AGEING
The Riserva 2016 was vinified in vertical Slavonian oak barrels using indigenous yeasts from our own vineyards. It was then aged for 3 years in Slavonian oak barrels.
EMOTION
Structure and grace, tension and fragrance shape the personality of this Riserva where dark cherries and dried violets find depth in endless balsamic sensations and scents of Mediterranean maquis, menthol, leather and flint. On the palate, the firm structure with young, still pleasantly lively tannins and a vibrant freshness presage a vintage destined for a very long life. The finish is persistent and seductive with hints of dried herbs enveloped by savoury, almost iodine-like sensations.
ACOOL 14%
The 2016 vintage is the 42nd Riserva produced since 1888.
