Barolo 'Castiglione' is our expression of classic Barolo. Grapes from small but very important vineyards scattered in the different communes of the Barolo area, with vine ages between 10 and 45 years. The soil is calcareous-clayey and the training system Guyot with an average density per hectare of about 4,500 plants.
Vinification: All individual crus are vinified and aged separately, in different ways so as to individually enhance the typical characteristics of each "terroir." Grapes are harvested strictly by hand, in the month of October. After soft pressing, fermentation lasts about three four weeks in steel tanks in contact with the skins. This time includes pre- and post-fermentation maceration using the traditional submerged cap method. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in wood.
Aging: Approximately 30 months of aging in large barrels, and a small portion in barriques. All crus are vinified individually and then blended before bottling.
Description: Ruby red color of medium intensity. The nose is explosive, opulent, persuasive and immediate. Hints of plum, red cherry and ripe black cherry, blackberry, black cherry, rose petal, tobacco can be perceived. The palate is classic, rich, powerful, with notes of alpine herbs and a leathery finish. The tannin is already well integrated.
