Greco di Tufo DOCG is one of Campania's great grape varieties, so old that it has been cultivated for more than 2,000 years in what was once Magna Graecia. The reason for this millennial success is explained by the fact that Greco is a warm, sumptuous and structured wine, at times rebellious, but endowed with personality and great depth. The earliest historical record of viticulture dates back to the first century BCE. It is a fresco found in Pompeii where it reads "vino Greco." There are indications that, previously, it was called Aminea Gemina from the nature of its double clusters. The DOCG production area is 6,152 ha. north of Avellino, partly included in the Partenio regional park at an altitude ranging from 300 to 650 m above sea level in the valley of the Sabato river. Greco di Tufo has obtained recognition as a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin) by Ministerial Decree of July 18, 2003.
